Mulled cider is the easiest thing in the world for such great returns. Minimal effort, high impact. Since our Potrero Progressives all went with the whisky sour, S and I will be enjoying the rest of the cider this evening.
Cider from the store (preferably unfiltered for that authentic musky look; I took the utterly lazy route and got Trader Joe’s Spiced Cider)
1 large orange, washed and sliced into aesthetically-pleasing wedges
cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice to taste (I didn’t add much, given the pre-made Spiced Cider)
Any old rum (or bourbon, I hear)
Heat the cider, orange, and spices over medium heat until hot. Add a dash of rum. Heat some more, then taste. Add more rum. Reduce heat to low and keep warm until it’s gone. It can be served as soon as it’s hot and sufficiently boozy.
